Today at Congress—Day 2

Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences
Wondering how to spend your time today outside of any one particular association meeting? One of the best ways to instantly access the other events open to all attendees is to go to congress2012.ca, click on Events and Programs and then select May 27 at the top. This will give you a comprehensive look at keynotes, panels, cultural events, Big Thinking lectures, special events and much more… all happening today.
For example, we have Sidonie Smith as our Big Thinking lecturer today. Sidonie is Martha Guernsey Colby Collegiate Professor of English and Women’s Studies at the University of Michigan and was the 2010 President of the Modern Language Association of America. Her fields of interest include human rights and personal narrative, autobiography studies, feminist theory, and postcolonial literatures. Her lecture, Toward a sustainable Humanities: Reconceptualizing doctoral education for the 21st century, is today from 12:15 to 13:20 in the Theatre of the Arts in the Modern Languages building at University of Waterloo.
Shortly after, a celebration highlighting the region’s indigenous tastes, sights and sounds will take place in the Senate and Board Chamber of the Dining Hall at Wilfrid Laurier University from 13:30 to 14:30.
All are welcome to drop by the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences wine and cheese reception in the Expo in the Wilfrid Laurier Athletic Complex from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a meet and greet with staff and executives (booth #29).
For other ideas from exhibits to symphony music to bike trails to the kick-off of the spring film festival at The Registry, check out May 27 in the calendar.
